ECLIPSE Cypriot Pilot – Delivering Energy Insights to Consumers in Cyprus

ECLIPSE is a European project, funded in the context of DIGITAL EUROPE, aiming at creating an intelligent, flexible, and consumer-centered energy ecosystem using innovative digital solutions and services. Due to energy challenges facing the EU and the world, the ECLIPSE project encourages consumers to gain more insight into energy consumption, relevant information related to the current situation in the grid and on the market, and take part in the ongoing energy transformation. It is considered of major importance to increase energy efficiency, reduce costs, and lower greenhouse gas emissions, leveraging the Common European Reference Framework (CERF) to monitor and manage energy consumption. These actions will lead to technological maturity in the energy sector that will result in more sustainable usage patterns.

The Cypriot Pilot Site

About the pilot in Cyprus, an innovative demo is being developed under which all significant energy-related information is provided to customers via the TSO App. The Cypriot pilot is targeted at a residential environment with some small businesses among the pilot users. It aims at increasing the ability of consumers to be well-informed about various aspects of energy consumption and engaging them in the system via an appropriate TSO App, providing useful information such as grid statuses, production from renewable and non-renewable sources, prices, and general recommendations for energy efficiency.

Partners Involved

The development and implementation of the pilot is the joint effort of two entities, namely, TSOC and CINTECH SOLUTIONS. Specifically, the Cyprus Transmission System Operator (TSOC) is engaged in providing technical input to make it possible to create the app, by providing APIs, system information and data associated with grid status, faults, recommendations, and pricing. Meanwhile, CINTECH SOLUTIONS is a technology provider engaged in the technological guidance of the pilot, as well as in promotion and communication, and ensuring high visibility of the pilot’s progress and status.

Activities of the Cypriot Pilot site

The work of ECLIPSE is progressing as planned in all its activities related to the demonstration pilots. In Cyprus, the preparation of the pilot for its demonstration phase is currently underway.

In terms of technical implementation, now the Cypriot pilot enters the stage of app integration. Thus, access rights for ETRA development team have been obtained and APIs on grid status, recommendations and pricing have been developed. Now, these APIs are integrated into the TSO App. After successful integration, the application will be put through the testing procedure, aimed at verifying its interoperability, and the deployment of the app will take place after it.

At the very beginning, the pilot will be performed with a limited number of users, allowing collecting their feedback on the app’s functionality, message and notification systems, general UI, including company employees and other external users. They will use the app in order to test its functionalities and provide their feedback on it. Then, when the app is ready for deployment in full-scale demonstration.

The Cypriot team works on awareness and user engagement activities as well. One of these measures is preparing an online campaign and interactive online workshops, scheduled for early May, during which the TSO App and its key features will be presented to the audience and demonstrated. This activity is expected to be one of the ways to establish contact between the project team and pilot users, and encourage you all to use and download the application.

Next steps

For now, all focus is directed at conducting initial tests on the application and obtaining users’ feedback. Once the development process continues, the application will be publicly available among bigger groups of people, so that the benefits can be seen on both the Cyprus level and the ECLIPSE project level.

The Cypriot pilot is paving the way for a more connected energy future, where better information leads to smarter choices and stronger consumer participation.

Maria Papadimitriou, EU Project Manager at CINTECH Solutions Ltd speaks to D-HYDROFLEX project

Maria, welcome. We are delighted to have you with us today as part of the #MeetTheD-HYDROFLEXTeam blog series. CINTECH is a partner in the D-HYDROFLEX consortium, leading the project’s dissemination and communication activities and ensuring that its vision, progress, and impact are effectively shared with a wide audience.

Q:  Would you like to introduce yourself, your background, and your area of expertise within the D-HYDROFLEX project?

A: My name is Maria Papadimitriou, and I am the Communication Manager of the D-HYDROFLEX project and an EU Project Manager at CINTECH Solutions Ltd, a technology service provider SME based in Nicosia, Cyprus. CINTECH leads the project’s dissemination and communication activities and brings extensive experience in European research projects across the energy, environment, IT, and innovation sectors. I have the pleasure and responsibility of coordinating all dissemination and communication activities across the consortium. My background is in European project management and strategic communication, and my focus is on translating complex technical work into clear, engaging messages that can be understood by both expert audiences and the general public.

Q: Women play leading roles within the D-HYDROFLEX consortium. Could you describe your role in the project and explain how female leadership contributes to collaboration, decision-making, and the overall success of the project?

A: Within D-HYDROFLEX, women occupy key leadership positions across technical, managerial, and strategic areas. CINTECH leads the dissemination and communication efforts, and in my role as Communication Manager, I coordinate all communication activities among partners and stakeholders. Female leadership enriches the consortium by bringing diverse perspectives to problem-solving and decision-making, fostering collaboration and innovation.

Q: We are curious to learn more about why it is important to “think outside the box” in the context of this project. From your perspective, how do innovation and diverse, inclusive teams support the goals of D-HYDROFLEX?

A: Innovation in D-HYDROFLEX is driven not only by technology but also by people. Inclusive teams with women in leadership roles bring diverse viewpoints that challenge conventional approaches and support more effective and innovative decision-making across the project.

Q: What are the main challenges you face in your work on the project, and how do teamwork, inclusive leadership, and cross-disciplinary collaboration help you address them?

A: One of the main challenges is communicating highly technical concepts to diverse audiences. As Communication Manager, and with CINTECH leading the dissemination and communication activities, I work closely with the D-HYDROFLEX consortium, including engineers, IT experts, and data scientists, to translate technical solutions into clear, engaging insights. Inclusive leadership ensures that every partner has a voice in shaping project outcomes, strengthening teamwork and accelerating problem-solving.

Q: Looking ahead, what are your expectations from the D-HYDROFLEX project, and what message would you like to share with young women who aspire to take on leadership roles in sustainable energy and innovation?

A: I expect D-HYDROFLEX to set a benchmark in digitalization and flexibility of hydropower, showing how advanced technologies can support a sustainable European energy system. My message to young women is to embrace leadership opportunities and contribute confidently to innovation. Projects like D-HYDROFLEX demonstrate that when women lead, teams become more inclusive, creative, and effective—ultimately creating solutions that benefit society and the environment.
